President Trump continues to prove that he will not back down to foreign entities that threaten the American military. Trump ordered the destruction of Iranian gunboats that provoke Navy ships in the Persian Gulf. This action comes in the wake of an encounter last week where Iranian vessels closed in on American ships during routine drills.
The Naval fleet keeps a presence in the Persian Gulf to help quell tensions that arise in the Middle East. These gunboats crossed in front of the Naval ships and were armed with heavy weaponry. This instantly increased the danger for the fleet and the servicemen and women aboard. The ships exited the area of the American fleet after approximately an hour and refused to respond to the many warning signals that were transmitted by the American ships.
President Trump has shown he will not allow the United States military show weakness, and future encounters, should they occur, would end in the destruction of these gunboats. Iranian military activity has increased and become a major concern for the American military and the international community. Present Trump commented on reports earlier this month by tweeting, “Upon information and belief, Iran or its proxies are planning a sneak attack on U.S. troops and/or assets in Iraq. If this happens, Iran will pay a very heavy price, indeed!”
Iranian leadership commented on the encounter and acknowledged the aggressive activity, but accused the United States of committing “unprofessional and provocative actions”. These accusations are unwarranted and the gunboats did not provide a reasonable explanation for their actions. President Trump has shown he will not allow tensions to escalate, and will eliminate any threat.
Donald Trump has proven he will protect American assets and the safety of the international community. This strong approach against foreign forces helps to protect the American military and US citizens as a whole.
